| | | | | | | | | | Identify and fix the source of the moisture or leak or you will soon have another unsightly water stain. | | | | Clean the surface with bleach and water – one cup bleach to one gallon water – to thoroughly remove dirt and unsightly deposits that can result from the leak. Rinse thoroughly, but be wary of “flooding” the surface, which can create high moisture surfaces that breed more mold and mildew. | | | | Dry the surface thoroughly. Use a hair dryer to dry small areas and a dehumidifier, heater or fan to dry larger surfaces. Make sure the surface is completely dry before priming. | | | | Prime the surface with a primer like Bulls Eye 1-2-3® PLUS, a water-base primer which completely blocks water stains and will prevent the stain from bleeding through the topcoat. Allow primer to dry for one hour before painting with your desired topcoat.
For very severe water stains, use B-I-N® Shellac-Base Primer Sealer.
